Why Tonsil?

Raw, untreated vegetable oils can contain a multitude of unwanted substances. They make the oil go rancid, change its colour and consistency or prevent certain forms of use. With Tonsil®, Clariant provides a 100% natural solution that is highly efficient while being very gentle.

Challenge:

EDIBLE OILS CONTAINS A LOT OF UNDESIRED SUBSTANCES AND IMPURITIES

To give edible oil a long storage life and make it heat resistant as well as neutral in taste and odour it has to be purified. All undesired substances, like gums, dyestuffs. Peroxides, heavy metals, and residues of crop protectants, have to be removed from edible oil whilst preserving the nutrients.

Solution:
HIGHLY ACTIVE BLEACHING EARTH BASED ON NATURAL RESOURCES IMPROVES OIL QUALITY CONSIDERABLY

Tonsil® bleaching earth derived from the natural clay mineral bentonite has a purifying effect. It is formed by an acidic activation of bentonite, which changes its special layered structure: the ion exchange with the protons enables additional water to enter between the layers and the mineral swells.

The surface area thereby increases fivefold. The activated and greatly enlarged surface can bind all undesired accompanying substances and impurities from the oil.

“Selling Solutions, Not Promises” 

1. Prepare the oil: Heat the oil to a temperature of around 60-80°C to improve the oil's fluidity and to facilitate the adsorption process.
2. Mix the Bleaching Earth: Gradually add the Tonsil Bleaching Earth to the oil while stirring constantly to ensure even distribution. The amount of Bleaching Earth used will vary depending on the oil and the desired level of purification.
3. Allow time for adsorption: Leave the mixture to stir for about 30-60 minutes to allow the Bleaching Earth to adsorb the impurities in the oil.
4. Filter the oil: Filter the oil through a filter press or centrifuge to separate the oil from the Bleaching Earth and impurities. The filtered oil should now have a improved color, odor, and taste.
5. Store the oil: Store the purified oil in a clean, airtight container to prevent contamination and oxidation.

It's important to note that Tonsil Bleaching Earth is a natural clay-based material, but it can also contain trace amounts of heavy metals or other impurities. It is important to ensure that the Bleaching Earth is food-grade and meets the required standards for use in the food industry.
